No 7 Castle Hill Museum

Event information

No 7 Castle Hill is an old Victorian house built in 1825. It was the home of Rev Francis McCleland, the first Anglican Priest in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), and is now a National Monument.

Situated in the city centre, this picturesque cottage is one of the oldest remaining settler dwellings here, and is furnished as a family home of the mid-Victorian period depicting the early settler way of life.

This quaint cottage museum has yellowwood floors and beams and a restored slate roof. Its dollhouse, period kitchen and lace displays are considered to be particularly impressive. The interior presents a picture of domestic life that many middle-class English families enjoyed in mid-19th century Port Elizabeth.
