Event information
The National Zoological Garden is situated on 85 hectares and is home to 9 500 animals. The Zoo is home to mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and many more.
The National Zoo is the largest zoo in the country and the only one with national status. More than 600 000 people visit the zoo annually. The total length of the walkways in the zoo is approximately 6km.
An Aquarium and Reptile Park also form part of the facility. The Aquarium is the largest inland marine aquarium in the country. The gardens host the third largest collection of exotic trees.
An onsite restaurant and a variety of food kiosks are available at the zoo. However, picnics and braais are welcomed too.
One of the zoo's highlights is the cable car. The cable car runs up to the top of a hill which overlooks the city and offers a 360 degree panoramic view of the animal enclosures and beyond to the Union Buildings.
