Event information
Museum Saturday at the Rupert Museum offers a variety of art talks, workshops, performances and activities which promise an inspiring weekend adventure for art enthusiasts young and old.
The Rupert Museum offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a day of art-fuelled learning with events for both adults and kids. With a particular focus on Heritage Month, expect adventures and experiences which celebrate the creativity and natural beauties of South Africa and its people.
From 10am to 3.30pm, guests can creatively engage with nature at artist Renée Holleman's Naturecultures Drawing Workshop. Basing the full-day drawing workshop on the surrounding environment at the museum, the class explores natureculture relations, and human relationships to the land. All materials are provided for this course, and participants are required to be over 18. Outdoor sketching takes place unless bad weather occurs - bring comfortable shoes, hats and sunblock for a day of art in fresh air. Tickets are R120 and can be booked online.
Kids Creative Corners offers specially-designed museum adventures for children aged 5 to 10 years. Kids can explore exhibitions in a fun new way, and by completing these activities, kids are entered into a lucky draw to win an art-inspired hamper to take home. This is free and available from 10am to 4pm without booking. It keeps the little ones busy for about an hour.
Gallery 1 features a book-binding workshop where guests can bind their own journals for sketching or writing. This learning experience guides visitors through processes of covering and assembling these books, ready for pressing. The books can be covered by a beautiful variety of Sheshwe or other fabrics. It's the perfect gift for loved ones, or just a hard-earned Heritage Day treat for creatives. Tickets are R120 each and need to be booked. Sessions take place between 10.30am and 3.30pm.
Join Saggy Stone Brewing Company for a tasting of craft beers between noon and 4pm. Sample and savour a range of beers crafted using pure mountain water sources from a farm, alongside insider stories into the traditions, history and processes behind these refreshing drinks. Three sessions are available for adult visitors: from 12pm to 1pm, 1.30pm to 2.30pm, and 3pm to 4pm. Booking is essential and tickets cost R30.
Lastly, all ages are welcome to enjoy the captivating performance of rising musical talent Angela Stuurman at #Gallery Sessions. This free event takes place between 1pm and 3.30pm. Refreshments from the Café’s pop-up menu are on offer during the show.
