Madi a Thavha Textile & Design Studio is a project creating employment for women in the rural areas around Madi a Thavha mountain farm in Northern Limpopo.
The studio has developed a wide range of home decoration and fashion products made with traditional and contemporary fabrics. Their primary collection is inspired by Venda and Shangaan techniques. You can buy Madi a Thavha Design piece and other arts and crafts in their shop at the Madi a Thavha Mountain Lodge.
The CraftArt shop sells items such as shoulder bags, scatter cushions, towels and jewelry. The artists also do custom-made wall decorations and other textile objects on request. Many guests go home with their own co-designed, personal heritage piece.
The studio offers workshops and training programs. Lodgers are welcome to pop in at the studio, while day trippers can phone or email to make an arrangement to visit.
