In collaboration with BMW, FNB Art Joburg launches BMW Art Generation, a weekend long event immersing the public in the contemporary African culture scene.
The BMW Art Generation gives public access to open studios, exhibitions, performance art pieces, live music acts as well as a boutique market with the leading cultural entrepreneurs working in food, coffee, literature, wine, design and fashion on the continent.
Its underlying aim is to bring celebrated and established young artists, curators and academics from across the globe together in conversation with collectors.
This is an opportunity to celebrate and protect the future of contemporary African art on African soil. It is a holistic approach to championing a sustainable and internationally influential future for African culture, in parallel with a conference.
The two day event has a full packed programme which includes various exhibitions, panel discussions from William Kentridge, Chika Okeke Agulu Hans Ulrich Obrist.
The programme also features:
- A solo exhibition by Lebohang Kganye
- A solo exhibition of never before-seen Ernest Cole works
- Monumental works by Mikhael Subotzky and Patrick Waterhouse
Open studios showcasing the David Krut Printworkshop, Mary Sibande artworks,Danger Gevaar Ingozi Studio and Mikhael Subotzky.
The event also has performances by Gregory Maqoma.
