The Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town, in collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, brings Handel’s Messiah to life, a masterpiece that has influenced sacred and classical music since its debut in 1742.
Since 1967, with only a pause due to Covid, the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town has made Handel’s 'Messiah' an Easter tradition. Especially renowned for its stirring "Hallelujah" chorus, the oratorio weaves the narrative of Jesus Christ’s life, from prophecy to resurrection, with majestic Baroque music.
This year, the choir is joined by 29 singers from the Happy Birthday Händel Förderverein, all the way from Halle (Saale), Germany. Conducting the oratorio is Chad Hendricks, and the soloists include Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi, Jacobi de Villiers, Sakhumzi Martins, and Thato Machona.
