Event information
A musical evening of choral singing in the heart of the Northern Suburbs, with youth choirs including:
Tygerberg Children's Choir
DF Malan High School Choir
Cape Town Camerata (formerly Cape Town Youth Choir)
Cape Town Male Voice Choir
The Tygerberg Children’s Choir returns from their tour to the United Kingdom, where they have been named Best Children’s Choir at the Hull International Choir Competition. This means that the choir has qualified to perform at next year's World Choir Games Championship Competition in New Zealand. The choir has also recently moved to 2nd place in the Interkultuur world rankings! The conductor is Karina Erasmus.
The DF Malan High School choirs have had a very busy year. They competed in the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod and have been invited to it's prestigious Gala event. At the Stellenbosch Eisteddfod they walked away as the prize winners. The DF choir is also proud to represent the Western Cape at the final round of the ATKV Applous competition in Pretoria. The conductor is Mr. Jade Paige.
The Cape Town Youth Choir has been rebranded to Cape Town Camerata, as a majority of its members had been getting older and could not qualify as "Youths" anymore. These are exciting times, one that is making space for a much more diverse representation of professional backgrounds as well as the possibilities of an even more robust musical contribution from the various vocal ranges contributed by the varying age groups. The conductor is Mr. Leon Starker.
The Cape Town Male Voice Choir was formed in 1976 by Dr. Chris Molyneux who envisaged men of all colours, creeds and backgrounds coming together in celebration of song. They have performed in a wide variety of venues ranging from schools, homes for the aged and the needy, to major concert halls and churches in and around Cape Town, and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, where we traditionally lead the singing at the Rotary Carols by Candlelight every December. The Choir has also performed in the Royal Festival Hall, London, in an international choral festival prior to the 2012 Olympic Games, and in Argentina and Uruguay in a hugely-successful week-long tour in 2016.
The Musical Director for the event is Mr. Peter Roux.
