The 50s American diner-style burger bar and theatre, Beefcakes, mixes 1950s Americana with camp humour, featuring over-the-top live comedy and drag performances. With outlets in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria, Beefcakes has carved a reputation as one of South Africa’s premier LGBTQ+ venues.
The Johannesburg outlet is in Illovo and hosts lively drag shows every night as well as camp cabaret at 20:30, tables must be booked in advance. Other than the muscular and topless waiters, guests can expect to see an outrageous performance by Holly & Friends on Thursdays, and a solo performance by LouLou Blu on Fridays. The Vamps perform on Saturdays giving guests entertaining music montages.
Bookings are recommended for large groups or parties, however, walk-ins are also welcome. The Beefcakes restaurant serves its signature burgers and one of a kind group cocktails.
