The details
Scene It, a new platform transforming the way we interact with public spaces, challenges all creatives, animators, illustrators or any inspired soul to #AnimateCT by adding their artistic flair to short video clips of the city's favourite spaces.
In partnership with the Cape Town International Animation Festival (CTIAF) and What's on in Cape Town, the #AnimateCT Challenge offers prizes for the best animations submitted. The challenge is open to animators and amateurs of all ages, and all styles and mediums. Think stop motion, lyric videos, full 2D and 3D animations, Flipbook-style animations, motion graphics, and mixed reality. The best ones that match the theme of 'Unexpected' is shared with the public.
From Langa to Sea Point, the Castle, the V&A Waterfront and beyond, the Scene It team has recorded a living backdrop or ‘plate’ at ten of the city’s iconic tourist hotspots. Animators are invited to bring their ideas to life in one or more of the hotspots, submit their work and stand a chance to win.
Entries are required to interpret the theme of ‘Unexpected’ and a three-step submission process gets you in the running.
STEP ONE: Register on the sceneit.app website to show your interest.
STEP TWO: Check out our video plates and let us know which one(s) provides the best backdrop for your characters / assets / story, and request a copy.
STEP THREE: Create your animation and submit it to the competition.
Video submissions are now open until 8 April. Winners are announced on 28 April and the Cape Town Animation Festival.
