Animal Anti-Cruelty League

Event information

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL), has been protecting and caring for animals since 1956. It is South Africa’s second largest independent Animal Welfare Organization, relying entirely on the generosity and goodwill of the animal-loving public for financial support.

The organisation gets involved with all aspects of animal welfare including providing shelter for abandoned animals, promoting an efficient adoption programme, prosecuting animal cruelty cases, running welfare hospitals for lower income groups, visiting underprivileged areas with fully equipped mobile clinics and regularly addressing schools and clubs on the challenges of animal welfare.

Volunteering and community service at the Animal Anti-Cruelty League is open to children and adults wanting to spend time with animals.

Volunteers (mainly children but adults are welcome) usually attend at least one volunteer course where they are taught the basics of handling and caring for animals.

Adult volunteers are introduced to the organization through an orientation morning before starting to volunteer.
Volunteers play an important role in helping with the handling, feeding, bathing, brushing, walking of the animals in our care.,

Volunteers give of their free time and form an important part of the team.
