Event information
The annual African Folktales Festival features Mantis and The Bee and The Magic Shell.
Mantis and the Bee is based on a folktale of the San people. It is a visual, musical, and humorous exploration of /Xam mythology and the origin of life. The performance includes haunting music, real dance, mysterious masks, and the Khoikhoi language. It offers an action-adventure into a world before the earth was created, inviting the audience to discover the magic hidden inside the stories of the first people.
The theatrical representations draw young children into a world where animals and humans are connected, allowing their imaginations to become rooted in culture and nature. This experience prepares them to embrace the folktale as their own and tell this original story in their own words and in their mother tongue.
This is ideal for young audiences to engage and sing along.
