Africa Soul returns to Theatre on the Square.
When new soul and blues singing group, Africa Soul held its showcase last year, guests were blown away by the talents and vocal prowess of this group that sings American soul with an African feel.
Africa Soul is a first for South Africa their music is pure soul and blues; taking ever-popular hit songs such as I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Kiss and Say Goodbye, Mustang Sally, Respect and I Feel Good from the 1950's/1960's era but most importantly and uniquely, re-working those well-known classics with African harmonies and lyrics, and in such a way, bringing songs from a bygone era to today's audience of both an older and younger generation, to either reminisce about, or to hear for the first time.
The collaboration of songs from the American South, to the African South also includes some South African soul classics, including all-time local favourites Vulindlela and Loliwe.
The group is made up of a few Soweto Gospel Choir members, some ladies from African Mamas, as well as professional singers who have been active in the entertainment industry for many years.
Africa Soul's sound is new, different and exciting, appealing to all age groups who want to experience beautiful music and exceptional voices that share interpretations of an amazing musical era brought to life again.
