Best Wine Farm Experiences for Kids and Adults This Easter at Spier

Easter at Spier this year offers a variety of ways to make memories at this ultimate family-friendly getaway and art destination in the Cape. The wine farm is running a bumper lineup of great events for both kids and grown-ups that’s can’t be missed.

This Easter, Spier Hotel is offering a 21% discount – in the spirit of the hotel’s 21st birthday – on the best available rate for a minimum stay of two nights over the long weekend. The village-style accommodation in the Winelands is all about rest and relaxation for both couples and families. Rooms are decorated in a classic style, each boasting a unique statement artwork by local artists. 

Units are clustered around six courtyards for the ultimate intimacy, each with its own swimming pool or river views of the Eerste River. There are loads to do at this art destination including great walking and cycling trails, art gallery visits, lunch at Vada’s Smokehouse, or an exciting Segway meander into the vineyards.

LET THE KIDS RUN FREE FOR THE EASTER SCAVENGER HUNT

For an Easter egg hunt that takes the excitement factor to a different level for both kids and adults, Spier’s scavenger hunt allows the little ones to roam the farm in search of a fun Easter prize. Find an Easter Bunny clue in five different locations and collect stickers along the way. Once the map is completed with all five stickers, it may be exchanged for a parcel filled with delicious Easter treats. The hunt is suitable for kids aged 3 to 12 years.

Adults can sample Spier’s award-winning wines at multiple wine tasting stations along the route.

RELAXED EASTER LUNCH AND DINNER EXPERIENCES

The Stellenbosch wine farm is hosting a range of Easter-themed lunch and dinner events over the weekend. On Saturday, there’s a relaxed open-fire buffet that’s anchored in fresh produce from the Spier Food Garden and meat cuts from Farmer Angus. The Easter-themed Sunday lunch includes classic spit-roasted lamb paired with award-winning wines. 

Kids younger than 4 eat for free. Children eat at the kiddies’ buffet on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5pm.

KIDS CAN GET CREATIVE WITH COOKIE DECORATING

Spier tasting room with its quiet dam views is running a FREE cookie decorating play experience for kids with each tasting booked over the Easter weekend. Children get to decorate their own freshly baked cookies as keepsakes or to simply snack on while adults explore the multiple wine ranges on offer. 

For a more rounded experience, let the kids try a tasting of two different grape juices and an educational activity sheet highlighting the role insects play at the vineyards. The cost for the grape juice tasting is R50 per child

CELEBRATE EASTER WITH THE PERFECT PICNIC

Picnics at Spier, deservedly, has a reputation as one of the best ways to explore the wine farm’s gorgeous natural spaces. The kitchen serves up casual yet gourmet fare al fresc0-style and you have the freedom to set up on one of the venue’s many cosy spots.

They’re doing a special Easter picnic edition running from 7 to 10 April that comes with hot cross and preserves, roast slivers of lamb with labneh, pickled fish, chicken terrine, roasted cauliflower salad, and much more. Plant-based options are also available.

When: 7 to 10 April. Daily. Pre-booked baskets can be collected from 12pm to 2pm or build your own at the Spier Farm Café. If you’re watching the Spier Light Art show, sunset picnics are also available for collection from 6pm

STAY UNTIL DUSK TO SEE THE SPIER LIGHT ART SHOWCASE

Make sure to catch the 5th annual Spier Light Art, which closes on Monday, 10 April. This after-dark art encounter starts at 6:30pm. 

You can look forward to a well-curated collection of progressive experimental light, sound, and video installations from some of the country’s acclaimed artists such as Lady Skollie, James Delaney, Hedwig Barry, and Seth Deacon among others. 

The event is family-friendly, and a great way to experience the Winelands after dark. Read more
