Otherworldy Orchids at the Cape Orchid Society Autumn Show 2024

Flower fans, house plant parents, and garden enthusiasts are in for a treat with the annual Cape Orchid Society Autumn Show. This time around the event is taking place from Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 April, at the Ferndale Nursery in Constantia.

This FREE event allows members of the public to come and enjoy superbly grown orchids, in larger-than-life displays. A vast variety of orchids and supplies will be for sale, and high-quality orchids will be up for grabs on a raffle for only R20 per ticket.

A world of gorgeous orchids for show and sale

The Cape Orchid Society Autumn Show is one of the two annual events hosted throughout the year. Members of the society as well as private growers present their best specimens of these stunning flowers for one weekend only. The show also offers the public an opportunity to view what the society does while experiencing the beauty of the orchid world.

A range of expert vendors are on standby throughout Ferndale Nursery to tempt with their plant offerings, essential advice and encouragement, and plenty of orchid supplies to keep the new plant purchases happy.

Cape Floral Region orchids

Did you know that 241 native orchid species have been recognised in the Cape Floral region? Considering the relatively small size of the area, this is an impressive number. Owing to their unusual strategies in an often harsh environment, Cape Orchids evolved to survival here. Sadly, many of them are now under threat – of the 1700 threatened plant species in this region, 70 are orchids. Buy, grow and spread awareness about South African orchids and you’ll be doing something altruistic when you attend the Cape Orchid Society Autumn Show.
