From 16 to 18 August 2024, Breathwork Africa hosts a captivating introduction to breathwork. Created for both beginners and practitioners, the three-day course combines spirituality, psychology, science, and health.
The Pneumanity approach is a full-spectrum framework guided by African Indigenous wisdom. Simple and practical, it offers a very useful set of tools.
What is Breathwork?
Breathwork simply means the practice of breathing with awareness, intention and attention to the present moment and inner experience.
Conscious breathing practices can vary in duration, intensity and purpose. They can be as simple as a few minutes’ exercise to promote mental focus and relaxation, or last for an hour or more, creating altered states of consciousness and a deeply personal therapeutic process.
Conscious breathing, when used on a regular basis, can help people develop the skill of relaxation, even in challenging situations. Conscious breathing can be practised by all ages and all situations: during times of stress, but also at school, the workplace, sports matches or preparation, performance preparation, and more.
The Seven Threads of Pneumanity Breathwork
The Indigenous Wisdom traditions of Africa gave birth to these universal principles of breath and consciousness. They are used in the training both philosophically and via practical application. The ‘Pneumanitarians,’ the practitioners and members of the Breathwork Africa Community, use the seven threads as guiding principles and also take seriously the aspect of embodying them personally.
- SANKOFA: Breath is the thread between remembering and imagining
- SAFETY: Through our breath, we experience safety, the environment that supports the natural healing process
- EMBODIMENT: We acknowledge and support the wisdom of the body as an expression of and vehicle for breath
- WHOLENESS: We relate to our healing from our natural state of wholeness versus from a place of lack or pathology
- UBUNTU: This universal truth celebrates the interconnectedness of all of life and the breath as embodied by Ubuntu
- CREATIVITY: Conscious breathing transforms an unconscious function into a creative force, supporting our capacity for growth and change
- THE MYSTERY: Breath is the thread between the known and the unknowable
